The Way of a Pilgrim
"The Way of a Pilgrim is a classic text of Russian Orthodox Christian spirituality. In it, an itinerant pilgrim wanders the Russian countryside seeking the experience of inner prayer "without ceasing," which h finds in the recitation of the Jesus Prayer. He repeats the simple prayer, "Lord Jesus Christ, have mercy on me," until it comes to permeate his entire existence.

Peace Be Upon Him
This is a culturally respectful image of the Prophet Muhammad, his face obscured by radiance. The Arabic is from the hadith (sayings of and stories about the Prophet), and roughly translated it states that since all things are dependent on God, the most beloved of God is the one who does the most for God's dependents.
There was no conscious decision to finish and publish this work on September 11th, but the timing highlights that an understanding of the Prophet is lacking not only in the West but also in many parts of Muslim world, where his message is used to justify acts of violence, oppression, and hatred.

Namaste
The word "namaste" has been explained to me many different ways over the
years, but the definition that I like the best - which digs deeply into
both the etymology and historical context of the word is "The Highest
in me recognizes the Highest in you."

Adsum
This work is a Christian interpretation of the proposed sacrificing by Abraham of his son, Isaac. The Latin word "Adsum" is the word used to translate Abraham's famous "Here I am" in the Vulgate Bible of the Middle Ages.

The Despondency of Arjuna
This image represents the opening of the Bhagavad Gita in the Mahabharata: Arjuna is ready to kick butt in the impending Battle of Kurukshetra and asks his cousin and charioteer Krishna (who just happens to be God Incarnate), to show him the armies arrayed in awesomeness for war. Once he gets out there, Arjuna realizes that many, many people, including friends and relatives, are about to be killed on both sides - many of them by him - and he becomes paralyzed by grief and moral doubt. Krishna then succinctly explains to him the nature of the entire Universe.

Rabbi Hillel Teaches the Whole Torah on One Foot
The Aramaic inscription (which concludes this story in the Talmud) reads: "What is hateful to thee, do not unto thy fellow; this is the whole law. All the rest is a commentary; go and learn it."
